Simon Mayer

Simon Mayer is per­for­mer, cho­re­o­grap­her and musi­cian. He was born in Austria in 1984 and stu­died at the Vienna State Opera Ballet School, at the Performing Arts and Research Studios in Brussels (P.A.R.T.S.) and was a mem­ber of the Vienna State Opera Ballet.

He was sin­ger and play­ed the bass in the hea­vy metal band C.O.P and foun­ded his band Rising Halfmoon as a sin­ger, song­wri­ter and gui­t­arist in 2009. In 2014 Simon Mayer relea­sed his music album Monkeymind. fol­lo­wed by SunBengSitting and Sons of Sissy.

As a dan­cer, cho­re­o­grap­her and musi­cian he wor­ked amongst others for Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker / Rosas (The Song), Wim Vandekeybus (Frisking) and Zita Swoon. He cho­re­o­grap­hed seve­r­al solos, duos and group per­for­man­ces which are inter­na­ti­o­nal­ly pre­sen­ted (O fea­ther of lead, Dancing with the soundhobbyist/​zita swoon, Kopf hoch, Monkeymind, SunBengSitting, Sons of Sissy, Oh Magic etc.).

He recei­ved the out­stan­ding artist award from the Austrain Chancellery in 2017 and the Annerkennungspreis des Lande Oberösterreich in 2018. Simon was artist in resi­den­ce at Théâtre de L’L in Brussels and together with his asso­ci­a­ti­on spiel he orga­ni­zes the inter­na­ti­o­nal art­fes­ti­val SPIEL.

Simon Mayer tea­ches con­tem­po­ra­ry dan­ce, com­mu­ni­ty dan­ce, tra­di­ti­o­nal dan­ce and voi­ce­tech­ni­ques (ImPulsTanz Vienna, stei­ri­scher herbst, and other inter­na­ti­o­nal fes­ti­vals, …) and is a guest tea­cher at Music and Arts University of Vienna.
