On Wednesday, Aurélie Di Marino performed in one of the performances at the opening night of the exhibition of Els Dietvorst and The BARRA MOVEMENT in the CENTRALE for contemporary art. ‘This is what you came for’ takes place simultaneously at two venues in Brussels. At the Centrale you can visit the expo until September 18, 2022. At Bozar until July 21, 2022.
Stijn Demeulenaere nominated for the Sound of the Year Awards
Stijn Demeulenaere’s installation, Zijlijn / Linea Lateralis, has been nominated for the Sound Of the Year awards, in the “Composed with Sound” category. Zijlijn is a research into the underwater soundscape of the North Sea. The murky water of the North Sea makes for very low visibility, so many animals depend on sound and smell to live and exist underwater. But the North Sea is also one of the busiest and the loudest seas in the world, making the relationship between man-made noise and natural sound a very difficult one. The installation was commissioned by Concertgebouw Brugge. You can see Zijlijn at the upcoming Hear Here Festival. Other dates TBA.

Water… explores the underlying friction of our perceptions of the racialised female body. Crossing/traversing a continuum of forms, figures linked to representations of Black History and her own imaginings of the Black body, the body of Water is a dangling, lost object, suspended between ‘how to be perceived’ and ‘how to express oneself’.
After graduating from ISAC and working as an interpreter for Louise Vanneste, Water, l’atterrée des eaux vives marks Castélie Yalombo’s debut as a choreographer. It is an ode to ambiguity from a rising voice in Belgian choreography. The piece will have its première at Kunstenfestivaldesarts: 15 – 20 May.

Edurne Rubio creates an in situ work for GC Elzenhof
TIJD GATEN is an artistic project commissioned by the Vlaamse Gemeenschapscommissie and realized in the context of the renovation works in the Elzenhof community centre. Edurne Rubio immerses visitors in the history of three houses built to accommodate three families. Today they make up a single building, having become a cultural, social and educational space open to an entire neighbourhood. More info about TIJDGATEN can be found here.
The public is welcome for a free tour on Thursday March 24 at 7 and 8 PM, followed by a reception with Brussels MP Els Rochette.

Interview: Sébastien Hendrickx over de worsteling tussen het goede leven en de klimaatcrisis
Het goede leven was een begrip dat de oude Griekse filosofen al bezighield. Maar wat betekent het in deze snel veranderende samenleving waarin de mensheid en de planeet bedreigd worden in hun voortbestaan? Sébastien Hendrickx maakte er de voorstelling The Good Life over en vertelt over zijn zoektocht en debuut als theatermaker in het magazine van GC De Lijsterbes.

Pianofabriek is op zoek naar een kunstenaar die samen met de buurtbewoners een artistiek project realiseert in de publieke ruimte dat het samenleven tussen individuen en/of groepen stimuleert. The Canadian musician, producer, director, visual artist, and performance artist Peaches lands in Belgium with her powerful songs and queer energy. Designed together with local circus and performance artists — Joshua Serafin, Luke Horley, Valentina Toth, Mario Barrantes Espinoza, Laura Murphy, Suzon Gheur, Amaury Vanderborght, Sophia Rodriguez & Electra- Smells like Peaches is a unique project, a mix of music, performance, circus and queer acts.

First open call for iMAL PROJECTS OFFICE
iMAL is a space of encounter between the creator and society. A space for participation and dialogue with the aim of stimulating the exchange of knowledge, creativity and critical reflection.
iMAL conceives interdisciplinary creative practice as an open process that generates knowledge and shall put its efforts to promote, support and produce individual and collective research and production projects. This is why they are launching iMAL’s Projects Office (hereinafter iPO), as a source of opportunities and support for creation and professionalization of the artistic scene in Belgium. Through two open calls per year, rotating leading local experts together with iMAL’s team will conform a jury that will select the projects to be produced, based on a transparent and inclusive procedure and paying special attention to diversity.

KWP maakt haar werking ook toegankelijk voor de mensen die in de toekomst als dramaturg en producent in het veld zullen instromen. Zo werken enkele studenten van de opleiding Culturele Studies (KUL) bij ons een ‘cultural policy project’ uit. Dit jaar gaat één groepje gaat aan de slag met het onderzoek Kitchen Table van Samah Hijawi.
